Spaced repetition for mistakes

Spaced repetition means reviewing something just as you are about to forget it, at growing intervals. It is usually used for flashcards, but it works just as well for mistakes: redo a question you got wrong tomorrow, then in three days, then a week, two weeks and a month.

Saved you some time? Leave a tip, entirely optional.

MistakeLog schedules this for you. The Review tab lists the mistakes due today; redo each without looking, then mark Got it right or Missed it again. Mastered mistakes leave the queue so you can focus on what is still shaky.

How to keep a mistake journal

Whenever you get a question wrong, in homework, a quiz or a practice test, log it straight away while you still remember what happened. Enter the subject and topic, where the question came from, and choose the type of mistake: you did not know the concept, used the wrong method, made a careless slip, misread the question, forgot a fact or formula, or ran out of time. Write one line on what went wrong and one on how you will avoid it. MistakeLog suggests a fix for each type if you are stuck.

Open the Review tab every day. Redo each due question without looking at the answer, then mark Got it right to push it further out, or Missed it again to bring it back tomorrow. After five successful reviews a mistake is mastered.

Reading your patterns

The Patterns tab counts your mistakes by type, subject and topic. Concept and method mistakes mean you need to study the material again. Careless and misread mistakes mean you need a checking routine, not more content. Memory mistakes call for flashcards, and time mistakes call for timed practice. Knowing which kind costs you the most marks tells you how to spend your revision time.

Private by design

Frequently asked questions

Why 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days?

It is a simple, widely used expanding schedule. Each successful recall roughly doubles the gap.

What happens if I miss a review day?

Overdue mistakes stay in the Review tab until you do them.

Is this the same as flashcards?

Similar idea, but you redo the original question instead of a card, which tests the full skill.

Is MistakeLog free?

Yes. Logging, reviewing, exporting and printing are free with no sign-up.

Is my journal stored online?

No. Your entries are saved only in this browser on this device. Use Backup to keep a copy.
